Rainkit was a fairly normal kit, although just before he reached apprentice age he contracted kit-cough, resulting in his being apprenticed late (after he recovered). He had an older kit friend, Claykit, although they grew apart after the latter was apprenticed.
As an apprentice, he learned quickly, but under stress would often have trouble actually putting what he'd learned into practice - in battle, or in hunting/fishing where he tended to lose patience and strike too soon. He dreamed in the Dark Forest once or twice, but once his Hollyleaf-esque devotion to the warrior code became apparent they gave up on the possibility of using him and his dreams stopped taking him there.
As an older apprentice, he reconnected with Claykit, now Clayfoot; however, when Clayfoot left to join another Clan, Rainpaw renounced the friendship, seeing the other's leaving as a betrayal of his Clan.
Soon after Rainstorm got his warrior name (spring 2012), his Clan was temporarily taken over and forced to become an anti-Clan (this happened on WCRPG, which he's an import from). Rainstorm saw his Clanmates apparently giving in, and left in protest, unable to stand life as an anti-Clanner, and knowing that he couldn't do anything against the much-stronger usurper on his own except die uselessly.
He didn't learn until a couple moons later (after the takeover had ended), meeting a Clanmate by chance while wandering, that actually much of the Clan hadn't changed sides at all but had simply been paying lip service to the anti-Clanners while plotting rebellion. And instead of being part of it, he had just left like a coward. That Clanmate told him as much, actually - and told him not to bother coming back.
Rainstorm condemned himself to wander for the rest of his life, never to return to RiverClan - or to join any other Clan, for what Clan needed a cat like him? At some point, he decided that StarClan wouldn't have let the takeover occur at all, let alone let his misunderstandings/act of stupidity happen, and came to the conclusion that either they didn't exist, were powerless, or just didn't care.
Despite this, he's kind to those whom he meets in his travels; if they wish to join a Clan he will direct them to RiverClan, and if they need anything else that he can help them with, he will. He still follows what aspects of the warrior code can apply to a non-Clanner, too. It's the least he can do, in his view, to make up for his own betrayal.
